The temperatures have risen, the nights are longer and the days a little more sweaty now that we are into real time summa time!! It's like the second we sip that first middle of the week evening cocktail on the roof deck, just because, is the second that Summer becomes real in my mind. I switch into beachy boho mode, aesthetically as well as behaviorally.
This of course means anything poolside, beachside, flowy, woven out of straw, bare skinned, dappled with afternoon sunlight and/or anything white. Bare feet as often as possible, as little undergarments as possible and as much family, friends, light food and drink as possible. Like what could be better than that?
Here are a few images that visually inspire me and hit me in the soul in a way that makes my heart flutter with excitment to just sit back, relax and take in all the style and beauty of this upcoming season.
White and bright outdoor seating areas are a great escape from the chores and electronics that distract us for what seems like every second of the day. Simplify and power down. Create a little outdoor oasis in your home, as small as it may be, enjoy the warm evening air and just be with your thoughts.
Bare feet are quintessentially summer, but maybe not appropriate for all environments. A little flat sandal in a organic material and color with no frills or fussy straps will give the illusion of bare feet, with out the risk of infection. These are from Tykees and I'm loving the style and the price.
No matter what time of year, a dreamy coastal beach shot is always a mood lifter. You can literally hear the stress melting. Can't wait to strap that baby to the bike and commence our Degan weekend beach seshes.
Don't ever count out a man made, back yard body of water to deliver just as much beauty and summer stress relief as that big ol' scary ocean. Full disclosure, as you can probably tell from my last comment, I'm more of a pool girl than an ocean girl. I have, what I believe, is a healthy fear of the ocean. I love to sit by it, watch the waves crash and dip a toe in, but I can't go beyond that without flashes of sharks, crabs, under toes, rip tides and Tom Hanks in Cast Away racing through my mind. That's healthy, riiight?
Big fan of a simple slip dress or flowy boho number, big fan. I like the coverage of a light weight boho dress and the ease of just throwing on a single garment and not having to match, tuck, belt or jujush anything. Give me a chance to go braless and by god these puppies are free. Something about wearing a dress also just makes me feel extra feminine and in turn distracts from my filthy NY mouth. Kind of like lipstick on a pig, but not that terrible.
One last favorite summer time moment; the tousled, three day unwashed hair under a structured straw hat. Completes any ensemble, saves your poor aging skin from the relentless sun and gives you a get out of jail free card on the whole brushing the hair front. An absolute summer time must.
