Green With Inspiration: The "It" Color and Perfect Dark Neutral

Jenni Kayne

Call him sage, olive, army, kelly, forest, emerald or pea, I have been gravitating towards green lately. I think all that rain over the winter really helped sprout some fresh perspective in me ; ) Dad jokes aside, green is the perfect earth tone that adds depth and much needed color contrast without always falling back on black or navy. Although you know I love whites, creams, greys and natural woods, sometimes you long for some saturation, and in my case, anything that will hide dirt, scratches, dog hair and sticky fingerprints without being too heavy, moody or trendy.

As I shuffle through paint samples for our living room accent wall, striving to add a little vert to our space, I wanted to share with you some of the awesomely green spaces that have pushed me in this color direction. Hopefully it will persuade you to embrace this verdant trend and expand your own color palettes, in the most perfect of Modhemian ways.

  1. I love nothing more then good vintage and we have all seen the Percival Lafer in pretty saddles, chestnuts and mochas but how stunning is he in green!

  2. My most favorite way to add a signature color to the home; new linen bedding. This Cultiver Olive set is so yummy and the boys will love it too. P.S. Father Rabbit is one of my new fav sources, check them out.

  3. When in doubt, switch up the pillows. Easy yet satisfying way to add color to your living or bedroom.

  4. Duh, eucalyptus! These faux stems from Pottery Barn are a great alternative to real. However real deals smell delish and last long enough for you to get your fill. I love nothing more than tall gorgeous greenery in a simple vessel to add interest to a table or console.

  5. Linen Slub Sofa! Need I say more. This is the Carpenter from our girl Amber but feel free to take these lines, pick your own shade and do custom to save some cash. But this baby is the perfect dark neutral for any loungey space.

  6. I’m a big big, no huge fan of accent lighting and lamps of all sorts. Even if you never turn them on, lamps provide an element of art, sculpture and personality to any surface they live atop. I’m typically drawn to neutral ceramics with a bit of texture, or vintage MCM inspired pieces that no one else has and Victoria Morris’ collection ticks all those boxes with this robins egg mini lamp.

  7. Love a large, round, low, sturdy coffee table and this BluDot number is all that but with a twist of sage, a departure from the omnipresent light oak we’ve been seeing everywhere.

  8. Art is a great way to add color and personality to a space, and one of my favorites. Try this Magique print coupled with this kelly green nature scape on a lean overlapped on your barren dresser or credenza and your in business.

  9. Lastly, a trinket. A fabulous green marble chain sculpture trinket that anyone would die to add to their home vignettes.

Now, get sucked into this beautiful green imagery and start taking notes on how these masters of design put it to good work.

Whether with tile, cabinetry or accessories this accent color blends seamlessly into my organic minimal mindset and is the perfect hue to keep things fresh and modern this Spring.

ciao for now!
